Real-Life Obstacles to Teaching & Learning
The theory of introducing new content, having students practice, and then apply this new content is all good and well.
However, we know that this process is much more difficult in reality. Teachers have countless variables that they are balancing at any given moment, so let’s address some of the variables that with intention, clarity, and administrative support, on which teachers can have a positive impact.
Variable #1: Student apathy, underdeveloped social-emotional skills, various learning styles, and different levels of background knowledge;
Variable #2: Shall we say Challenges with recognizing & acknowledging adherence and lack of adherence to classroom rules & procedures?
Variable #3: Difficulty establishing & maintaining effective relationships with students, and this is for many reasons, especially pandemic-related issues that run the gamut;
Variable #4: Building strong, beneficial, and respectful relationships with parents/guardians, creating a unified message when communicating high expectations for every student.
